     OK, START HER UP. Ready for the big moment? Let’s keep our fingers crossed as we close the switch. You may have to give the armature a little push. If all the connections are good and nothing is binding the shaft, the motor should spring to life. Try adjusting brush pressure for better performance. A little oil in the shaft sup- port holes will help too.

     Just to see what our little workhorse can do, tie some thread around the shaft and let it hang over the edge of a table. See if the motor can lift, say, a lead pencil. Hey now, here’s a possibility for your next science project in school.
